Freya Mowat received her veterinary degree from the University of Bristol, England in 2001, and worked in private mixed animal veterinary practice in Cumbria, England from 2001-2003. She completed a small animal rotating internship at Davies Veterinary Specialists from 2003-2004. She earned her PhD in 2009 from University College London, studying molecular mechanisms of oxygen sensing in the retina. She recently completed her combined residency and postdoctoral position in Comparative Ophthalmology at Michigan State University, and is currently an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at North Carolina State University. Dr. Mowat's research focuses on inherited dysfunction or degeneration of the retina and developing novel therapeutic strategies to treat these diseases.
