SUMMARY OF RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS THIS LIST SHOULD NOT BE A REPLACEMENT FOR THE FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE INFORMATION BROCHURE

AT THE START OF THE RESIDENCY

1 - At the start of the residency, the mentor should provide the resident with a copy of both the approval form and the current information brochure (available online). Any change to the residency training programme (e.g. change in mentors) has to be communicated promptly to the ERC. Only those mentors listed in the approval form may sign residency forms.

2 - Carefully read the information brochure and familiarise themselves with the ECVO website (especially FAQs)

3 - The new resident’s mentor will send a completed form 3 (Program director’s statement) together with the resident's email address to the ERC within one month of starting the residency training program.

4 - Contact Dr Johana Premont from the communication committee in regards to Biography/picture/login details so that the resident can be included in the ECVO website and gain access to all online forms. This should be done within the first month of starting the residency.

  • Franziska Matheis (resident coordinator) – for general question related to the residency programme, credentials, or the exam

 

THROUGHOUT THE RESIDENCY

Clinical training

5 - 29 months of program spent in clinical ophthalmology, 80% under direct supervision

6 - ONLINE Completion of the following forms (some residents may still however be using the excel forms depending on the start date of their residency):

Species case entry
Surgery entry
Summary surgery log
Training entry
Presentation log - yearly
Research project
Programme evaluation form - yearly
Progress evaluation form - yearly
Summary
Signature Forms – yearly

 

Scholarly activities, Extracurricular activities, Seminar & Teaching responsibilities

15% off clinic time minimum

 

7 - Specialty training

  • Veterinary anaesthesia minimum 1 hour per month
  • Ocular Histopathology minimum 1 hour per month
  • Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging minimum 1 hour per month
  • *Exceptions may apply with prior approval of ERC* (see information brochure)

 

8 - Literature review

  • Book discussion minimum 1 hour per week
  • Journal review minimum 1 hour per month
  • See information brochure for full list of books/journals

 

9 - Publications:

  • 1 x original peer-reviewed paper
  • 1 x case report or original peer-reviewed paper

 

10 - Presentation at ECVO or ACVO conferences:

  • 1 x oral presentation
  • 1 x oral presentation OR poster

 

11 - Attendance to Basic Science Course (3 weeks) – strongly recommended

12 - Attendance to ONE ECVO MEETING – Mandatory

13 - Presentation of minimum of 3 different seminars to peer audiences - strongly recommended

14 - Student teaching - optional
