The Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan,

Canada is seeking applicants for a combined residency/Masters of Science

(M.Sc.) position in veterinary ophthalmology. This four-year program will begin

on July 15, 2006. Current Board Certified veterinary ophthalmologists at the

WCVM are Bruce Grahn and Lynne Sandmeyer.

 

The primary objective of our program is to prepare the resident for completion

of the ACVO board examinations. The secondary objective is to prepare the

candidate for a career in academic ophthalmology. These objectives are met

through exposure to research, teaching of undergraduate and graduate students,

as well as clinical service.

The resident will devote 1.5 years to active pursuit of the M.Sc. research and

completion of the thesis. The remaining 2.5 years will be spent focusing on

clinical training and completing the ACVO requirements. The resident will be

exposed to ophthalmic pathology through weekly interactive pathology rounds.

The resident will also benefit from interaction with the local human

ophthalmologists through weekly rounds and monthly journal club.

 

Applicants must have completed a one year internship or the equivalent.

Applications will not be filled through the American Association of Veterinary

Clinicians Matching Program. The deadline for receiving applications is

December 1, 2005. The successful candidate will be notified prior to January

15th, 2005.
