Gil Ben-Shlomo Biography

In memorian: It is with the deepest sadness and shock, that ECVO has lost Dr Gil Ben-Shlomo, who passed away on 21 October 2020.

Dr. Gil Ben-Shlomo obtained his DVM degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel in 1999. After practicing general medicine for 2 years he returned to his home university to obtain a PhD in Neuroscience and Ophthalmology while still working as a general practitioner. In 2010 Dr. Ben-Shlomo successfully completed a Comparative Ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida and subsequently obtained his Board Certification and a Diplomate status at the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. Dr. Ben-Shlomo became Diplomate of the ECVO in 2013 and he is also a registered specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology in the State of Israel.
Since 2010, Dr. Ben-Shlomo has been on the faculty at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University, and his active interest in research includes retinal neurodegenerative diseases and electrophysiology of vision. He was awarded for his achievements in the field of ophthalmology and vision research by the European Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology, The International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision and the Israeli Society of Vision and Eye Research.
